Patternly Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy — Patternly by Luca-S
Last updated: 28 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Patternly by Luca-S ("Patternly", "we", "us") handles information when you use the Patternly app (iOS and Android) and the Patternly website at luca-s.com/apps/patternly.
The data controller is UK Luca-S LTD ("Luca-S"), the operator of the Luca-S brand and store. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@luca-s.com.
We have written this policy in plain language. The short version: Patternly is a cross-stitch pattern editor and stitch tracker that runs in your browser or app. Most of your data — your patterns, your stitching progress, and any photos you use — stays on your own device. We only handle the small amount of information needed to run your account and, if you choose to subscribe, your subscription.
1. Information we handle
a) Account information
If you sign in, we handle your email address, obtained through Shopify's Customer Account sign-in (OAuth). We use it to identify your account, keep you signed in, and determine whether you have access to Patternly Plus. We do not receive or store your Shopify password.
b) Subscription information
If you subscribe to Patternly Plus, your payment is processed by the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Shopify — not by Patternly. We never see or store your card details. Your name, email, and billing address are handled by those payment providers under their own privacy policies. Patternly receives only your subscription/entitlement status (whether Plus is active), so we can unlock Plus features on your account.
c) Your patterns and stitching progress
The patterns you create or import, and your stitch-tracking progress, are stored on your own device (in your browser's local storage). If you are signed in, this information may also be synced to your account on our servers so it is available when you sign in on another device. This content is linked to your account but is only used to provide the app to you.
d) Photos and camera
When you use the photo-to-pattern converter or the thread-colour matching tools, your photo is processed entirely on your device. Your images are never uploaded to our servers and are never stored by us. We do not collect your photos.
e) Anonymous usage counts
Patternly increments simple, anonymous global counters (for example, a total tally of how many patterns have been created) using a third-party counter service. These counts contain no personal information and are not linked to you or your device. They are not used for advertising or tracking.
f) Information we do NOT collect
Patternly does not show ads, does not sell your data, and does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not collect your contacts, location, health data, or browsing history.
2. How we use information
We use the limited information above only to:
- provide the app and website, and keep you signed in;
- unlock the correct features for your account (free or Plus);
- sync your patterns and progress across your devices, if you are signed in;
- keep the service secure and working correctly.
We do not use your information for advertising or profiling.
3. Legal bases (UK/EU GDPR)
Where UK/EU data protection law applies, we rely on:
- Contract — to provide your account, sync, and any subscription you buy;
- Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure and functioning;
- Consent — where required, for example when you choose to use a feature that accesses your camera or photo library (managed through your device permissions).
4. Sharing and third parties
We share information only with the service providers needed to run Patternly:
- Shopify — sign-in (Customer Accounts) and Luca-S store subscriptions;
- Apple App Store / Google Play — app distribution and in-app subscriptions;
- RevenueCat — to manage and verify in-app subscription status;
- Cloudflare — hosting of our backend service;
- an anonymous counter service — for aggregate, non-personal usage tallies.
Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
5. Data retention
- On-device data (patterns, progress, photos) remains on your device until you delete it or clear the app's data.
- Account data (your email and any synced patterns/progress) is kept while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time (see Section 7).
- Subscription status is retained as long as needed to manage your access.
6. Children
Patternly is not directed at children and is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights — including deleting your account and its data — contact us at support@luca-s.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk).
To stop all on-device data collection, you can sign out and clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
